Alan Bedford-Shaw, Standard Bank

Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of your Chairman, Rob Legh. He was a fine leader, a good man and an excellent lawyer. We mourn his loss along with you.

Association of Competition Law Practitioners

It is with tremendous sadness that the ACLP notes the passing of one of our most revered colleagues. An extraordinary lawyer and person, Rob Legh was known to all, and a close friend and mentor to many. Having pioneered the practice of competition law in South Africa as a specialist discipline, his decades-long contribution to our field leaves an enormous legacy. As Chairman and Senior Partner at Bowmans, Rob was equally a respected leader to the profession throughout the continent.

Anyone fortunate enough to have known or worked with Rob will bear testimony to his kindness and collegiality, evenly matched by a keen strategic and legal mind. Rob generously shared his knowledge and experience, quietly captivating any meeting without ego; commanding attention without seeking it. He had a passion for contributing to the growth and development of junior lawyers, many of whom benefited from working alongside Rob on the many high-profile matters he steered.

We mourn this tragic loss alongside Rob’s family, friends and colleagues.

Don Allaway
