I have just heard the very sad news about Rob. Please accept and convey my sincere condolences to the partners on the firm’s loss of your senior partner and friend: he was a really “good guy”.

I well remember Rob from my early days at Bowmans. He had a great sense of humor, could be mischievous and was good fun. Add to that, he became a fine and respected lawyer with integrity. He added value to many lives and will be missed.

I’m so heartbroken for all of you. He was a great man and we can only imagine how hard this is for all of you. You have my deepest sympathies, and I will remember him very, very fondly.

I wanted to reach out to say how sorry I am to hear the news about Rob’s passing, what a tragedy. We are thinking about you all during this very difficult time.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your Chairman and Senior Partner, and our colleague, Rob Legh. He was an extraordinary lawyer and widely respected leader of your firm and our profession. That he was also collegial, polite and pragmatic – to a fault, despite the typical exigencies that accompany the leadership of a corporate law firm and the challenging circumstances in our broader environment, must mean that his loss will be deeply felt by us all, and Bowmans no less.

It is at least comforting to know that on account of his contributions and leadership over decades, he will have left an indelible mark on Bowmans and its enduring standing as a premier South African corporate law firm and a proud legacy for its partners and junior lawyers.

Thabile, I, our firm’s leadership and the directors of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, grieve Rob’s loss with his family and our Bowmans colleagues. Trust that we have you in our thoughts at this incredibly difficult juncture we face as a humanity.
