For a number of years I was privileged to work with Rob Legh as he authored, and then directed colleagues to author, our publication The Competition Law Sibergramme, a regular update on his field of expertise. A more thoroughly decent man would be hard to find, and it was with great shock and sadness that I learned of his untimely death. My condolences go to all his colleagues and his family.

I just received word that Rob has passed away. I wish to send my deepest condolences and sympathy.

I met and spoke with Rob many times, at international conferences, Lex Mundi events, and during his visits to Tokyo. He was always calm and gentle, it was always a pleasure to meet him. I did not have a chance to work with Rob on a competition law case, but I was always confident I could rely on him and his team if there was ever a need to receive advice.

This must be a huge loss to Bowmans, and I wish to send my sympathy to everyone at Bowmans. I will miss him.

We have had the privilege of working with, and in some cases opposite, Rob on a number of precedent setting transactions over many years. We also worked alongside him in the role he played on behalf of organised business through Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) and more recently in the critical role Rob played within Business for SA (B4SA) in tirelessly working with social partners to limit the devastating impact of the pandemic on employers and employees through the Temporary Employment Relief Scheme (TERS).

Throughout these many different roles, Rob’s unwavering commitment to his clients, colleagues and his fellow South Africans was a constant theme. Over and above his sage and steadfast advice, his dedication to making a positive contribution both to the business community and society more broadly was universally evident. He was a true patriot and an outstanding individual. His generosity of spirit, dedication and friendship will be dearly missed.

We wish the team at Bowmans and Rob’s family much strength at this very difficult time.
