Overview

Kimberleigh is an associate in the Shipping and Logistics Department of our Durban office and a member of the Shipping, Aviation and Logistics Practice.

Kim has experience in security and in rem arrests, admiralty dispute resolution and international arbitrations.  She has worked closely on various matters involving claims for missing cargo and general logistics disputes.

Experience

  • Advising charterers and their insurers on arresting bunkers of a ship on time charter after the ship was re-delivered, as security for international arbitration proceedings.
  • Advising an international logistics services provider on loss of cargo claims and defending proceedings instituted against it.
  • Providing advice to insurers and their members on the requirements for a security arrest in South Africa.
  • Acting for stevedores in the arrest of a cargo of bitumen drums on board a vessel in the repair yard.
  • Acting for a ship repair yard in international arbitration proceedings for unpaid repair costs and assisting the client to resolve and settle the matter.

Qualifications

  • LLB degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal (summa cum laude).
  • Member of the Maritime Law Association of South Africa.
