Earlier this year, we reported on Transnet and the Department of Transport’s launch of a Request for Information (RFI) on 23 March 2025, to interested and affected parties in potential private sector participation (PSP) in rail and port freight logistics projects. At the time when the RFI was launched it was announced that the responses would inform the identity and scoping for future PSP opportunities.
On 4 June 2025, the Department of Transport announced that 162 formal responses were received, with the RFI portal website recording some 11 600 visits. The Department of Transport will now assess responses to the RFI. A copy of the Department of Transport’s media statement is available from the South African Government website here.
We are very encouraged to see this level of interest in PSP and look forward to seeing announcements about future PSP opportunities in the ports, rail and logistics space.
