South Africa’s Department of Transport has proposed the ratification of the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (Hong Kong Convention). According to the Government Gazette notice which can be accessed here, stakeholders are invited to submit written comments by 19 August 2024.
The proposed ratification of the Hong Kong Convention is part of the wider objectives of South Africa’s Draft Comprehensive Maritime and Transport Policy, which is aimed at, inter alia, providing an institutional framework for the governance and management of the maritime and transport sector.
