Yanga has experience representing and advising local and international clients on complex commercial, regulatory, and cross-border disputes. His experience spans a broad range of sectors, including financial services, insurance, renewable energy and infrastructure, project finance, telecommunications, higher education, mining, tax, and public sector regulation.
His work includes advising on contractual and shareholder disputes, B-BBEE-related disputes, procurement and administrative law challenges, regulatory enforcement proceedings, and tax disputes. He has also advised multinational and domestic clients on cross-border enforcement and extradition proceedings, investor-state arbitration claims, and commercial arbitration matters.

General Commercial and Cross Border Disputes
- Acted for a major South African insurance company in a civil claim against a former employee who concluded an unauthorised agreement with a marketing agency, resulting in significant financial loss.
- Advised a European parent company on initiating an investor-state international arbitration claim against the Republic of South Africa.
- Acted for a global energy management company in arbitration proceedings arising from a contractual dispute and related complaint to the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Commission.
- Acted for a global telecommunications manufacturer in a R46 million arbitration claim against a local distributor.
- Advised a major South African audit firm on insolvency proceedings in Ghana against a politically connected company.
- Advised a non-profit organisation on import licensing and registration requirements for second-hand clothing imports to fund charitable activities.
- Advised a major European energy company on negotiating a gas supply agreement with a Belgian utilities company.*
Financial Services, Regulatory and Public Law
- Represented a foreign national in review proceedings challenging the Department of Home Affairs’ unlawful decision to declare them a prohibited person.
- Advised an international pro bono organisation on the South African regulatory framework concerning child labour, sexual exploitation, and abuse.
- Represented a former director of a JSE-listed company in review proceedings challenging the JSE’s decision to impose sanctions against them.
- Acted for a South African insurance company in urgent interdict proceedings brought by an underwriter alleging unlawful churning of policyholders.
- Acted for the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council in urgent interdict proceedings against a disbarred advocate who had harassed, intimidated, and threatened violence against council employees.
- Advised a South African university on urgent procurement in relation to the appointment of a security services provider.
- Advised a financial services regulator in an appeal against administrative sanctions imposed on a financial services provider under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001.
- Advised the Independent Schools Association on submissions to National Treasury concerning VAT exemption status for independent schools.
Tax and Customs
- Acted for a medical practice group in an internal SARS appeal concerning understatement penalties.
- Acted for an agricultural company in an internal SARS appeal regarding the disallowance of a tax return correction.
- Advised a South African company on the tax implications of a proposed corporate restructuring and a potential R200 million tax liability.
- Advised a Bewind Trust on the tax implications of a beneficiary structured as an en commandite partnership with fluctuating investors.
- Acted for a major sugary beverages manufacturer in an internal National Customs and Excise Appeal regarding the imposition of the sugary beverages levy for products manufactured between 2019 and 2022.
Project Finance, Renewable Energy and Infrastructure
- Advised Rand Merchant Bank as lead arranger on financing two solar projects developed by Sturdee Energy for PPC Limited.*
- Advised a water user association on the development, upgrading, and financing of bulk raw water and potable water infrastructure.*
