LOSS OF CARGO OVERBOARD FROM THE “SEROJA LIMA”

Loss of cargo overboard from the “Seroja Lima”: We represent owners and their P&I insurers following the loss of 27 containers overboard the 8530 TEU container vessel “Seroja Lima” off the port of Ngqura (Coega), South Africa on 15 November 2014. Our assistance has included: taking statements; collecting and preserving evidence; investigating the cause of the loss; liaising with the local safety authority (SAMSA) and the port operator in searching for and removing the lost containers from the seabed in the anchorage and removing of those beached containers together with their contents; negotiating and monitoring compliance of various directives issued by the port authority, the Department of Environmental Affairs and SAMSA under local maritime pollution and safety legislation; as well as advising on local recovery actions in tort and arrests of the vessel by cargo interests.
