WELCOMING FOUR NEW PARTNERS
Please join me in welcoming four new partners to Bowmans - three in South Africa and one in Kenya.
They are Aleem Tharani in Nairobi, Christine Rodrigues in Johannesburg, Juliette de Hutton in Cape Town, and Lebohang Mabidikane in Johannesburg. Each brings sought-after skills and experience to key growth areas of the firm. Aleem, Christine and Juliette start with us today, with Lebohang starting on 15 July.
Our Nairobi M&A and Projects team stands to benefit from Aleem’s formidable skills in the sphere of projects, energy and infrastructure development and finance.
He was previously a partner at Anjarwalla and Khanna in Nairobi where he worked on major power and infrastructure projects in Guinea, Kenya, Sierra Leone and Uganda, among others. Aleem, whose expertise is recognised by both IFLR1000 and Chambers, has an LLB Hons from Manchester University and a Legal Practice Certificate, awarded with distinction, from Nottingham Law School.
Christine, who has joined our Banking and Financial Services Regulatory Practice, was previously a director at Hogan Lovells South Africa, having established their Insurance Regulatory and Commercial Practice. She has advised most insurers in the market, as well as regulators, brokers and industry associations. Her experience ranges from assisting with licence applications and advising on insurance regulation including specialised matters such as index-based insurance to transactional work such as the transfer of policy portfolios and warranty insurance. Christine has a B.Com Hons and an LLB from Wits University and Unisa respectively.
Juliette is a liquidation, insolvency and business rescue specialist with 20 years’ experience and has joined our Dispute Resolution Department in Cape Town. She was previously an executive director in ENSAfrica’s Insolvency and Business Rescue Department, working on a wide range of insolvency-related court proceedings, and representing liquidators and corporate clients in forensic investigations and formal inquiries. Juliette is also a solicitor of the High Court of England and Wales.
Lebohang joins our Competition Practice in Johannesburg. She has excellent insight into the workings of the competition authorities as she previously headed the Mergers and Acquisitions Division, as well as the Cartels Division of the Competition Commission. There, in addition to overseeing merger regulation and cartel investigations and litigation, Lebohang served on the Commission’s top decision-making structures, including its Executive Committee and Management Committee. She has an LLB from the University of Johannesburg.
All four new partners are adept at solving complex legal problems in their fields and have a keen appreciation of the business challenges and opportunities in African markets. Having three women of such high calibre joining us is also in keeping with our firm-wide gender diversity aspirations.
