Leading pan-African law firm Bowmans continues to diversify and deepen its tax expertise. The firm today announced the appointment of Roné la Grange, a specialist in financial services tax matters, as a partner in its Tax Practice.

La Grange is the third high-level tax specialist to join Bowmans in as many months. In August, East African tax specialist Nikhil Hira joined the firm’s Nairobi office as tax director and in July, Robyn Berger, a specialist in international tax, became part of the Johannesburg team. Earlier in the year, the firm welcomed Adele de Jager and Michael Rudnicki from KPMG and saw Kelly Wright promoted to partner.

La Grange’s appointment forms part of a concerted effort to consolidate Bowmans’ position as a leading corporate and finance practice in the region.

“Roné brings further breadth and depth to our tax offering given her experience in financial services tax matters in key sectors such as banking, insurance and private equity; and areas such as exchange-traded funds, collective investment schemes, hedge funds and property funds,” says Bowmans chairman and senior partner, Robert Legh.

La Grange began pursuing her career in the field of tax soon after being admitted as an attorney and spent much of her career at KPMG, including a number of years as corporate tax partner in Johannesburg.

She has BLC and LLB degrees (both awarded cum laude) from the University of Pretoria, a Masters in Taxation from the University of the Witwatersrand and Diplomas in Company Law and Financial Markets.

“Her experience of complex tax considerations will serve our clients well in a wide range of areas from tax due diligence to finance and investment structures and debt restructuring, among others,” says Legh. “Her skills set further enhances the competitiveness of Bowmans’ tax offering.”
