Johannesburg, 13 September 2018: Leading African law firm, Bowmans walked away with top honours at the African Legal Awards hosted by Legal Week and the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa (CCASA) in Johannesburg on 7 September 2018.

According to the organisers, the African Legal Awards "set out to recognise exceptional achievement from within Africa’s legal community at a time when the legal sector is going through a period of rapid change". African Law Firm of the Year is one of three awards identified as "key".

In addition to this accolade, Bowmans was one of two firms that took home the highest number of practice area awards at three - for Property and Construction Team of the Year, Energy and Natural Resources Team of the Year and TMT Team of the Year.

The firm’s chairman and senior partner, Robert Legh, says: "We are delighted with this recognition. It confirms that our strategy is working for our clients, our people and the business - and the timing could not be better.” The awards come shortly before Bowmans celebrates the tenth anniversary of the establishment of what became Bowmans Kenya (Coulson Harney LLP) and the fifteenth anniversary of the establishment of what became Bowmans Uganda (AF Mpanga Advocates).

Legh concludes, “On a continent where markets are volatile, politics are unpredictable and laws do not always favour investors, we have gone from strength to strength. I believe that this is as a result of our people and our ‘one firm’ approach. I could not be prouder.”
