BOWMANS KENYA IP TEAM AWARDED GLOBAL IP RANKING, FOR SIX CONSECUTIVE YEARS
World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000 – The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals has yet again awarded a gold ranking to the Intellectual Property (IP) team at Bowmans Kenya for the sixth consecutive year. The WTR 1000 is considered the definitive resource for those that seek legal trademark expertise. This year’s publication undertook an exhaustive qualitative research project to identify the firms and individuals that are deemed outstanding in this critical area of practice. When identifying the leading firms, factors such as depth of expertise, market presence and the level of work on which they are typically instructed were all taken into account, alongside positive peer and client feedback.
The WTR 1000 commends John Syekei, a partner in the Bowmans Kenya IP Practice, saying, "Expert practitioner John Syekei captains the team”. He is a “hardworking and aggressive lawyer, with a complete IP skill-set. Well-connected and clued-up on developments across Africa, he is a trusted guide to brand protection throughout the region. Syekei is supported by David Opijah, who demonstrates a deft touch in the enforcement and commercialisation of intangible assets.”
John Syekei says “Kenya is very attractive because of the Government’s focus on transformation into a middle income economy by 2030. Investment by Government in innovation and industrialisation, reasonably well developed Commercial and IP laws, reasonable commercial Judges, a reasonable efficient IP system and a growing pool of experienced IP lawyers. Companies are investing huge amounts of money on innovation and consequently IP protection. Investment in technology and innovation by local corporates is a key driver of the amount of work we are seeing in the region.”
According to the WTR 1000, "Gold-tiered firm Bowmans combines a stellar domestic trademark practice with exceptional international capabilities. Its dynamic and deeply experienced team is among the best in the country; it shows great professionalism and knows how to get things done."
Bowmans Chairman and Senior Partner Robert Legh adds, "This is a great achievement, once again, for John and his team. The team is described as dynamic, deeply experienced and among the best in the country. This is testimony to the strength and depth of our practice area and that we are achieving our goal of being the leading pan-African law firm on the continent."
