Johannesburg, 1 June 2017: Leading pan-African law firm Bowmans has appointed Andrew van Niekerk, Spencer Naicker and Samantha Saffy to strengthen its construction, project finance and commercial property offerings.

Van Niekerk provides specialist legal services related to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), public-private partnerships (PPPs) and independent power production (IPP). His sectors of interest are infrastructure, energy, mining & resources, transport and real estate within the construction, project finance and regulatory practice areas.

Naicker specialises in EPC and EPC management, with specific focus on project service agreements, operation and maintenance agreements and related legal services for project-financed transactions.

Saffy focuses on commercial real estate, security and all aspects of conveyancing and notarial practice. She has particular expertise in commercial real estate developments, real estate finance, real estate-related due diligences, mining title and regulatory due diligences and security documents.

This follows the appointment of London-based Nicolas Bonnefoy as partner and deputy head of the Bowmans Oil and Gas Sector Group, in February this year. Bonnefoy has been involved in structuring, negotiating and implementing acquisitions and disposals of mining and oil and gas assets throughout Africa, as well as in the negotiation of exploration and production contracts and related contractual arrangements.

Chairman and senior partner, Robert Legh, says, “We are very pleased to welcome Andrew, Spencer and Samantha to our team. Andrew and Spencer’s extensive experience in construction and project finance will significantly bolster our front end Construction Practice, which has been thinly stretched for a short while. Samantha’s skill set complements our existing commercial property offering and adds considerable depth and experience to our Commercial Property Practice. Our aim is to continue to be the leading independent pan-African law firm with the very best legal specialists in all jurisdictions in which we operate."
