Bowmans news…

The need to drive economic recovery in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic has created a sense of urgency around addressing South Africa’s current infrastructure gap. Government and members of the private sector seem to agree that public-private partnerships (PPPs) are one of a limited number of viable mechanisms for stimulating infrastructure investment in the country.

Patrick Hirsch, who heads our Project Finance Practice, and senior associate, Smita Vassan, have prepared a series of three recordings on infrastructure-related PPPs in South Africa. In the first video they highlight the pros, cons and prospects of PPPs in addressing the country’s worsening infrastructure backlogs. In the second video, they discuss why collective effort from both the Government and the private sector is necessary for the success of PPPs. In the final video, they talk about what needs to happen in order to maximise the potential of PPPs to deliver much-needed infrastructure.
