The South African construction environment is sophisticated and generally akin to that of more developed jurisdictions. As a general rule, all internationally recognised methods or delivery and transactional structures are used in South Africa. From a transactional perspective these include single contractor and consortia/joint venture arrangements (with OEM/contractor or multiple-contractor unincorporated joint ventures being most common). Delivery methods depend on owner requirements, the status of the owner (i.e., private or public sector) and the nature of the works.
