A RESOURCE GUIDE TO THE U.S. FOREIGN CORRUPT PRACTICES ACT RELEASE
With the investigation by the United States Department of Justice (“DOJ”) into Net 1 UEPS Technologies Inc. regarding allegations of tender corruption relating to a contract with the South African Social Security Agency having received widespread media coverage, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) and its long arm of the law is more relevant to South African business than ever before. On 14 November 2012, the DOJ and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission made public its first official guide to the FCPA (“the Guide”). The purpose of the Guide is to provide “helpful information to enterprises of all sizes- from small businesses doing their first transactions abroad to multi-national corporations with subsidiaries around the world”.
