The principle of equal pay for work of equal value is geared towards eliminating a particular form of workplace discrimination: differentiation on the basis of a ground listed in section 6(1) of the Employment Equity Act, 1998 (the Act) or any other impermissible arbitrary ground. Section 6(1) of the Act prohibits unfair discrimination in any employment policy or practice, on one or more of the grounds listed in the section, or on any arbitrary ground.
