Union funds are not the only funds with exposure to abuse by staff and officials. This abuse can take the form of the hiring of inappropriately high grade cars when taking trips on behalf the fund and bias in the hiring of staff to the use of fund assets to meet personal expenses. Some large umbrella funds are administered by special purpose administration companies in which their trustees and senior management are shareowners.
