ANTIDUMPING BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT

With SA’s biggest producer of stainless steel sinks having called for existing antidumping duties on equivalent products from China and Malaysia to remain in place for another five years, antidumping as a trade remedy is once again in the headlines. Duties on stainless steel sinks were due to expire on November 5, and Franke Kitchen Systems had asked the International Trade Administration Commission (Itac) to increase them to 586% from 62.4% for China, and to 831.68% from 95.8% for Malaysia - the motivation being declining profits, production and capacity utilisation based on market share lost to cheaper Asian imports.
